The Portland Re-Engagement Centre was opened in February 2011 as a campus of the Portland Secondary College.
The Centre caters for students who are at risk of disengaging, or have already disengaged, from mainstream education.
The facility began with 25 students and has grown to 38 students this year. They are divided into three different groups based on age and gender equality. Students range in age from 13-17 years.
There are four main teachers and many support staff from various community groups at the Re-Engagement Centre, including Brophy, Quamby, Portland Police, Portland District, Westvic, DWECH and Portland Secondary College.
Local artist, Cat Bailey, has mentored the students through the art project. All this has been possible using funds from United Way.
Through the artwork and exhibition students have been able to demonstrate a variety of outcomes for their VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) Personal Development Studies and for their VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards).
